Glorifying Celebrities
News stories are 80% gossip about celebrities’ bad behavior. The editors want those stories published because they know people want to hear that. People are interested in celebrities’ mistakes. Celebrities’ bad behavior is covered more in news stories than positive behavior because it’s exciting, it creates a lot of drama, and good behavior is expected.
The first reason why celebrities’ bad behavior is in the news more is because it’s exciting. On magazine covers it says ‘so and so’ did this and it makes people want to read the article. This is evident when “fought through eating disorders and has struggled with cutting." (Hunter). All the magazines focus on this one mistake she did. Even though after all the changes she made for the earth no one remembers that. It’s exciting to hear that an actual celebrity made a mistake. It makes people know that the celebrity is not perfect.
